As I write this, it’s my daughter Katie’s birthday. We’ll celebrate and measure the years tonight.  We’ll think about what matters.

It’s also the holiday season. We’ll all give a little thought to what matters most to us. I know I will measure what has mattered to me a bit.

Watching football on Sunday had me thinking about attracting the best talent to a team.  How does a growing business attract the best talent today, and how can they enhance what they're doing?

If you're trying to attract the top graduates in a field, what do those students want to know about getting a job in your field, or at your company? How do students today learn about anything?  Online of course!

Are you providing the answers to them? The Sales Lion Inbound podcast, Inbound as a Recruiting Tooltalks about using the inbound methodology to recruit top talent to your company.  They suggest a best practice for recruiting includes dedicating a part of your website to "Careers." So what messages would attract the right students to your site? What topics are students interested in?

Back to school checklist for gaining online leads

The summer is soon ending and the time is coming to get back to work. My definition of "getting back to work" is work without the thought or preparedness for vacation!   I live in the South, and the kids start school this week. Having grown up in Rochester, NY, it's odd to me, to see school buses before Labor Day, but it's normal here in Charlotte, NC.

What should be "normal" for you is making sure your web efforts do all the basic blocking and tackling, (there's a fall analogy!) that should gain you leads and sales.

So turning my thoughts toward work and building business, it seemed useful to put together a checklist of ways to attract business.  Here goes...
